A simple three-step flow

How to translate Dutch to English speech online

This live Dutch–English page starts with Dutch (Netherlands) and English (United States) for a station or reception question. Dutch (Belgium) is a separate catalog entry. Dutch time words such as half vier mean half past three, not half past four, so a clock time needs a careful look at both captions.

  1. 01

Choose Netherlands or Belgium on purpose

The page opens on Dutch (Netherlands), nl-NL. Dutch (Belgium), nl-BE, was a separate label in the 8 October 2026 catalog. Select it before Start if that is the entry you want. The page does not switch by itself.

  2. 02

Ask for the platform, then pause

Press Start translating and allow the microphone. Wait for Listening. One platform or one time is enough. Opening the page does not request the microphone.

  3. 03

Read half-hour wording against the digits

If you hear half vier, do not assume 4:30. Compare the captions and confirm the clock time with the speaker. This page does not promise to normalize Dutch time expressions.

Words on screen

Follow each turn in the two caption columns

Read Dutch (Netherlands) speech beside its translation, then let the other speaker answer in English (United States) if they prefer. The text stays grouped by the two selected languages, so check the original wording when a place, name, or number matters.

Captions are text only, and either selected language can be spoken in the same session. The examples on this page are written to illustrate the languages; they are not captions captured from a live session.

With live captions, both people can follow each turn and respond while the conversation is underway. Use the two language columns to check names, numbers, and places together.

Language selections

Choose the two languages for this conversation

This page starts with Dutch (Netherlands) and English (United States). Speakers can take turns in either selected language during one session. The language columns stay fixed, and the Web trial is up to one cumulative minute per visitor.

How to select the two conversation languages in the browser voice translator
SettingHow it works
First languageStart with Dutch (Netherlands).
Second languageUse English (United States) as the second language; both remain visible in separate caption columns.
Conversation directionEither selected language can be spoken in the same session; its translation appears in the other language’s column.

The default is Dutch (Netherlands), nl-NL. Dutch (Belgium), nl-BE, is a separate catalog option from the 8 October 2026 list. In Dutch, half vier means 3:30, not 4:30. The page does not convert that phrase automatically. The platform example is edited. Confirm numbers and times in the original caption.

Short, practical exchanges

Where a short live exchange can help

Finding a platform number

The edited example uses a platform number and avoids a half-hour phrase so the digit is easy to compare.

Hearing a Dutch half-hour

Treat half vier as a phrase to confirm, not as English “half four.” Ask for the time again if the captions are not explicit.

Checking a name at reception

Say the name in its own turn. The other person can answer in English without reversing the pair.

Practical tips

Make each caption easier to check

  • 01Leave the default on Dutch (Netherlands) unless you have selected Dutch (Belgium) on purpose.
  • 02Confirm any half-hour aloud. Half vier is 3:30.
  • 03Prefer a bare platform number when the first caption mixes a time and a place.
  • 04The browser shows captions only. It does not play audio or take a file.

Quick troubleshooting

No microphone input?

Check this site’s microphone permission and your system input device, then return to the tool and start again. If another application is using the microphone, close that recording session first.

Does the browser play translated speech?

No. The browser voice translator shows recognized speech and translations as text captions only; it does not play translated speech.

Connection interrupted?

Wait for the status to recover before speaking. If the session ends, check your connection and press Start again. A reconnect does not guarantee that speech from the interruption can be recovered.
