A simple three-step flow

How to translate German to English speech online

This live German–English page starts with German (Germany) and English (United States) for a desk or station question where a compound word, address, or number needs another look. Speakers take turns without reversing the columns. The browser shows captions after Start; it does not take a file.

  1. 01

    Confirm German (Germany)

Check German (Germany), de-DE, and English (United States). The page does not split a compound for you or choose a regional variety from the first sentence.

  2. 02

Ask for one address or platform

Press Start translating and allow the microphone. Wait for Listening. Say the street or platform, then pause. The page does not request the microphone on load.

  3. 03

Read the compound and the number together

Compare the German caption with the English one. A long compound and a house number are easier to trust when you see the original words.

Words on screen

Follow each turn in the two caption columns

Read German (Germany) speech beside its translation, then let the other speaker answer in English (United States) if they prefer. The text stays grouped by the two selected languages, so check the original wording when a place, name, or number matters.

Captions are text only, and either selected language can be spoken in the same session. The examples on this page are written to illustrate the languages; they are not captions captured from a live session.

With live captions, both people can follow each turn and respond while the conversation is underway. Use the two language columns to check names, numbers, and places together.

German (Germany)

English (United States)

The address is Hauptstraße 12.

Language selections

Choose the two languages for this conversation

This page starts with German (Germany) and English (United States). Speakers can take turns in either selected language during one session. The language columns stay fixed, and the Web trial is up to one cumulative minute per visitor.

How to select the two conversation languages in the browser voice translator
SettingHow it works
First languageStart with German (Germany).
Second languageUse English (United States) as the second language; both remain visible in separate caption columns.
Conversation directionEither selected language can be spoken in the same session; its translation appears in the other language’s column.

The default is German (Germany), de-DE. German compounds stay as written words in the caption; the page does not promise to gloss every part. ß and umlauts matter in addresses. The page does not identify Austrian, Swiss, or other regional varieties automatically. Confirm addresses and numbers in the German caption.

Short, practical exchanges

Where a short live exchange can help

Reading a street address

Say the street and number once. Check ß, umlauts, and digits in the German caption before you enter them in a map or form.

Asking which platform

Keep the platform number alone if the first answer also includes a time. Compare the digit in both columns.

Checking a desk instruction

One next step per turn. The other person can answer in English without a direction switch.

Practical tips

Make each caption easier to check

  • 01Check Hauptstraße-style spellings in the German line, including ß and umlauts.
  • 02Separate a house number from a long direction if the caption looks crowded.
  • 03German (Germany) is the start selection. Change it only if the picker has a closer entry you mean to use.
  • 04Captions are text only. There is no spoken German or English playback on this page.

Quick troubleshooting

No microphone input?

Check this site’s microphone permission and your system input device, then return to the tool and start again. If another application is using the microphone, close that recording session first.

Does the browser play translated speech?

No. The browser voice translator shows recognized speech and translations as text captions only; it does not play translated speech.

Connection interrupted?

Wait for the status to recover before speaking. If the session ends, check your connection and press Start again. A reconnect does not guarantee that speech from the interruption can be recovered.

German to English voice translator FAQs

Questions before you start

01Will a long German compound be split for me?

No. You see the recognized German wording and an English caption. Read the original compound if the English gloss is vague.

02Does the page cover every German-speaking region?

It starts with German (Germany). It does not detect or promise a separate variety for every region. Check the picker and confirm local names with the speaker.

03Why keep the address in its own turn?

Street names and house numbers are easy to mishear inside a longer direction. One address turn gives you two captions to compare.

04Can I upload a German meeting file?

No. This page is live microphone speech after Start. It does not ingest files or export captions.

05What is the browser time allowance?

Up to one cumulative minute per visitor. Used time remains used after Stop or a refresh. The app offer is three free days and is separate.
