A simple three-step flow

How to translate Greek to English speech online

Use this live Greek–English page for a short travel question where a street is written in Greek letters. It starts with Greek (Greece) and English (United States). Speakers take turns with the columns fixed, so you can read the Greek name before you follow an English spelling.

  1. 01

    Confirm Greek (Greece)

Check Greek (Greece), el-GR, and English (United States) before Start.

  2. 02

Ask for one stop or street

Press Start translating and allow the microphone. Wait for Listening. Name one place, then pause. The page does not request the microphone on load.

  3. 03

Read the Greek letters beside the English name

Use the Greek caption if the English spelling could refer to more than one place. Repeat the name if a letter is unclear.

Words on screen

Follow each turn in the two caption columns

Read Greek (Greece) speech beside its translation, then let the other speaker answer in English (United States) if they prefer. The text stays grouped by the two selected languages, so check the original wording when a place, name, or number matters.

Captions are text only, and either selected language can be spoken in the same session. The examples on this page are written to illustrate the languages; they are not captions captured from a live session.

With live captions, both people can follow each turn and respond while the conversation is underway. Use the two language columns to check names, numbers, and places together.

Language selections

Choose the two languages for this conversation

This page starts with Greek (Greece) and English (United States). Speakers can take turns in either selected language during one session. The language columns stay fixed, and the Web trial is up to one cumulative minute per visitor.

How to select the two conversation languages in the browser voice translator
SettingHow it works
First languageStart with Greek (Greece).
Second languageUse English (United States) as the second language; both remain visible in separate caption columns.
Conversation directionEither selected language can be spoken in the same session; its translation appears in the other language’s column.

The default is Greek (Greece), el-GR. The example uses Greek letters, not a transliteration. The page does not promise polytonic spelling or every regional variety. Confirm street names and numbers in the Greek caption. The sentence is edited.

Short, practical exchanges

Where a short live exchange can help

Finding a street in Greek letters

The edited example uses Ερμού. Read that caption before you search an English spelling of Ermou.

Checking a stop number

Say the number alone if the street caption is enough to compare already.

Taking the reply in English

The other person can answer in English without reversing the columns.

Practical tips

Make each caption easier to check

  • 01Read Ερμού in the Greek column before you rely on Ermou.
  • 02Keep a stop number in its own turn.
  • 03Greek (Greece) is the starting selection.
  • 04Captions are text only. There is no spoken playback and no file upload.

Quick troubleshooting

No microphone input?

Check this site’s microphone permission and your system input device, then return to the tool and start again. If another application is using the microphone, close that recording session first.

Does the browser play translated speech?

No. The browser voice translator shows recognized speech and translations as text captions only; it does not play translated speech.

Connection interrupted?

Wait for the status to recover before speaking. If the session ends, check your connection and press Start again. A reconnect does not guarantee that speech from the interruption can be recovered.
