A simple three-step flow

How to translate French to English speech online

This live French–English page starts with French (France) and English (United States) for a reception or travel exchange where a name has to be read back. Speakers take turns in one session, and the columns stay put, so you can compare the French wording with the English caption before you confirm a booking. It listens through the microphone after Start; it is not a file upload.

  1. 01

Check French (France) before a liaison-heavy sentence

The starting pair is French (France) and English (United States). Spoken French often links words, while the caption has to show separate written words. Check the selected labels, then speak one sentence at a time.

  2. 02

Start only when the name or booking is ready to say

Press Start translating and allow microphone access. Wait for Listening. Say the reservation name once, then pause. Loading the page does not request the microphone.

  3. 03

Compare the written name in both columns

Read the French caption before you accept the English spelling of a surname or street. If a letter is unclear, ask for that name again on its own.

Words on screen

Follow each turn in the two caption columns

Read French (France) speech beside its translation, then let the other speaker answer in English (United States) if they prefer. The text stays grouped by the two selected languages, so check the original wording when a place, name, or number matters.

Captions are text only, and either selected language can be spoken in the same session. The examples on this page are written to illustrate the languages; they are not captions captured from a live session.

With live captions, both people can follow each turn and respond while the conversation is underway. Use the two language columns to check names, numbers, and places together.

Language selections

Choose the two languages for this conversation

This page starts with French (France) and English (United States). Speakers can take turns in either selected language during one session. The language columns stay fixed, and the Web trial is up to one cumulative minute per visitor.

How to select the two conversation languages in the browser voice translator
SettingHow it works
First languageStart with French (France).
Second languageUse English (United States) as the second language; both remain visible in separate caption columns.
Conversation directionEither selected language can be spoken in the same session; its translation appears in the other language’s column.

The default label is French (France), fr-FR, from the catalog collected on 8 October 2026. Vocabulary and address forms differ by region; this page does not detect a regional variety or promise every French-speaking region. Spoken liaison is not a separate caption mode. Check names, dates, and numbers in the original French caption.

Short, practical exchanges

Where a short live exchange can help

Confirming a reservation name

Give the name in one turn and the date in another. Read the French line before the desk copies it. A linked spoken phrase can still need a written check.

Asking for a platform or entrance

Ask for one place. Compare any number in both captions, then repeat the number if the columns disagree.

Clarifying a short instruction

Let the other person answer in English or French without reversing the controls. If the reply is longer than you can check, ask for the next step only.

Practical tips

Make each caption easier to check

  • 01Say a surname slowly and then look at the French caption, not only the English spelling.
  • 02Keep a date, room, and price in separate turns so a linked phrase does not hide one of them.
  • 03French (France) is the starting selection. If the picker offers another French entry and it fits the speaker, choose it before Start.
  • 04This page does not accept a French voice note or play the translation aloud.

Quick troubleshooting

No microphone input?

Check this site’s microphone permission and your system input device, then return to the tool and start again. If another application is using the microphone, close that recording session first.

Does the browser play translated speech?

No. The browser voice translator shows recognized speech and translations as text captions only; it does not play translated speech.

Connection interrupted?

Wait for the status to recover before speaking. If the session ends, check your connection and press Start again. A reconnect does not guarantee that speech from the interruption can be recovered.

French to English voice translator FAQs

Questions before you start

01Why is the default French (France)?

French (France) is the fr-FR catalog label used as this page’s starting selection, with English (United States). Check the picker if you need a different available French entry before you start.

02Will a spoken liaison appear as one long word?

The caption is written text, not a recording of how the words were linked in speech. Read the French line and repeat a name if the word boundaries look wrong.

03Can the other person reply in English in the same session?

Yes. French and English can be spoken in turns. The columns stay with the languages you selected.

04Can I drop in a French audio file instead of speaking?

No. The page is for live microphone speech after Start and permission. It does not upload files, play translated speech, or export captions.

05How much live time is included on the Web?

Up to one cumulative minute per visitor. Stopping or refreshing does not give that time back. The app offer is three free days and is separate from this browser trial.
